I have a certificate in community and youth work (Goldsmiths College 1975) and a PhD in adult education (Southampton University 1998). My working life has been guided by a firm belief in the value of democratic processes and collective action for the common good. For me, a socialist, feminist politics always means taking the time (yes - time) to include everybody in making informed decisions about how we want to live together and who's going to do the washing up.
I've worked in Lewisham, Hackney, Bristol, Weymouth and Essex with a focus on adult literacy and basic education in community, youth and Trades Union projects, in a prison, a psychiatric hospital, workplaces and in adult and further education colleges. From 1999-2004 I was a research fellow at the Open University and my last full-time job was teaching youth workers at YMCA George Williams College in East London.
